Mission

Promoting contemporary Icelandic culture
on a global scale.

The Reykjavik to Foundation organizes Icelandic cultural festivals across the world, showcasing the most recent developments in the Icelandic cultural scene, all with the aim to introduce a wider audience to contemporary Icelandic culture and to broaden the market for Icelandic artists.

Promoting Icelandic culture also means to promote Iceland in general, working together with the export and the tourist industry we link business to culture and generate new markets or versify existing markets.

The Reykjavik to Foundation sets up co-operations with world leading venues, creating long lasting partnerships between the venues, the artists and the Reykjavik to Foundation. These networks result in reoccurring festivals on a biannual basis, where each new festival edition strengthens the partnerships and each new location broadens the network.

The line-up of a Reykjavik to Festival consists of upcoming Icelandic talent and known artists and musicians. For many artists involved, it is the first time that their work is presented to an audience outside Iceland. The Reykjavik to Foundation offers young talented artists a chance to broaden their perspective and be seen by an audience outside of their native country. The musicians and artists benefit from this in their future career, and in their artistic development.

The Reykjavik to Foundation tries to steer away from mainstream performers, focusing entirely on contemporary art, be it music, dance, literature or fine art.

The Reykjavik to Foundation generates a broad base of financial support, both from Iceland as from the locations abroad. The Reykjavik to Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, this enable it to create with small budgets big results.

The Reykjavik to Foundation is the only organization that promotes Icelandic culture on this scale and has been given the honorary title of being the unofficial ambassador for Icelandic culture.
